Kybella

Kybella is a medication containing deoxycholic acid, which we naturally have in the body. This treatment is currently FDA approved for the treatment of unwanted submental or chin fat. The fat in this area is very susceptible to genetics and even with a strict diet and exercise, it is very difficult to sculpt this area.

How does it work?

Kybella is injected into areas of unwanted fat where it permanently destroys the fat cells and prevents them from storing and accumulating in that area. Those treated fat cells later get metabolized and excreted from your body.

Depending on how much fat you have, you may need 2 to 6 treatments and 1 to 3 vials per treatment. Each treatment is spread over 4 to 6 weeks. During the clinical studies, 59% of patients needed 6 treatments and used between 10 and 15 vials of Kybella. What are the side effects?

The most common side effects are swelling and numbness. Other side effects include redness, bruising, pain, and areas of hardness. We recommend icing and massage to help reduce the side effects.
